Emergency crews from multiple departments worked together Sunday to rescue a driver trapped in an overturned vehicle off the New York State Thruway in Wayne County.
The crash sent the vehicle down an embankment into a swampy, wooded area, requiring a coordinated response to reach and safely extract the occupant.
According to the Clyde-Galen Fire District, crews from the Tyre Station and Main Central Station were dispatched April 5 for a reported motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment along the Thruway.
First arriving units found a single vehicle off the roadway, overturned on its roof in a wooded, swampy area. Rescue crews reached the vehicle and located one occupant inside who was alert and responsive but unable to free themselves from the seat belt.
Additional crews worked to clear a path to the vehicle by cutting fencing and obstructions in the wooded area. Once access was established, rescuers were able to safely remove the occupant without incident and transfer the patient to EMS.

Fire crews remained on scene to assist with vehicle removal and traffic control.
Officials credited the outcome to coordinated teamwork between Clyde and Tyre responders.
