Longtime Moravia judge suspended amid ongoing state investigation

A longstanding Moravia town justice, June Shepardson, has been suspended since July 5 due to an ongoing investigation by the state Office of Court Administration.

Judge James Murphy, who oversees town and village courts outside New York City, issued the suspension, reassigning all pending judicial matters from Shepardson to Judge Sheila Hargett-Kemp.

Murphy also ordered that Shepardson must not be assigned additional judicial matters.

Additionally, Shepardson must relinquish all case files and will no longer have access to court case management and email systems. Details of the investigation have not been released.

Shepardson was first elected Moravia town justice in 2005 and has been reelected four times since.
