Christopher M. Laframboise, a 39-year-old Brutus man accused of attempting to decapitate another man with a machete, turned down a plea deal in the Cayuga County Court on Thursday.
Laframboise, facing charges of second-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault, had been offered a deal by Chief Assistant District Attorney Chris Valdina.
The deal involved Laframboise pleading guilty to the attempted murder charge, resulting in a sentence of 15 years in prison, five years of post-release supervision, and protective orders for the victim and his family.
According to a timeline provided by Valdina, Laframboise carried out a premeditated attack after purchasing and sharpening a machete just days before the assault. The assault took place on Feb. 6, 2023, at the victim’s house, leading to serious injuries including a laceration and a jaw fracture.
