  • Staff Report

In celebration of World Bee Day, local financial institution Cayuga Lake National Bank (CLNB) has announced it will host an in-person event at its Unions Springs branch on Saturday, May 20 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The goal of World Bee Day is to bring awareness to the importance of bees’ vital role in keeping the planet healthy. For the event, CLNB has partnered with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Cayuga County which will provide informational resources and demonstrations to attendees.

Kelly Wade, President & CEO of CLNB, shared, “Our beloved mascot, Busy, is like family to all of us at CLNB and within our communities. We love her and want to do our part in helping support her family, so we’ve launched this initiative to bring awareness to bees’ critical role in supporting our planet and communities through this event at our Union Springs location.” Wade added, “We would also like to thank CCE Cayuga for being our wonderful partner and providing critical support to this initiative.”

The event on World Bee Day will feature a variety of family-friendly activities such as a pollinator garden-planting initiative, crafts and activities for youth, and informational beekeeping demonstrations from the Finger Lakes Beekeeping Club. Local honeybee vendors are also invited to sell their products at the event.

CCE Cayuga’s Executive Director Daniel Welch stated, “We are thrilled to partner with Cayuga Lake National Bank, whom we have been customers of for many years, on this initiative as it truly embodies the values and vision of CCE Cayuga. We are excited to help in bringing this new event to our community and to bring awareness to the vital role of bees in a healthy environment.”
