Two bridge replacements in Canisteo will utilize panels from the deconstructed Tappan Zee Bridge, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Thursday. The upgrades, part of a $10.1 million investment, also include new bridges in Schuyler and Yates counties.

In Steuben County, the former Tappan Zee panels will replace bridges on Route 248 over Sugar Creek and Bennett’s Creek. These projects, totaling $4.8 million, aim to enhance resilience to severe weather and expand pedestrian and cyclist access. Substantial construction is expected to finish by year’s end.

Additionally, a $2.3 million project will replace the Route 14A bridge over Rock Stream Creek in Schuyler County, and a $3 million project will update the Route 54 bridge over Willow Grove Creek in Yates County. Both new structures will feature wider shoulders and improved longevity, supporting access to key Finger Lakes destinations. All bridge work is scheduled for completion this fall.
