Yankees’ Luis Severino expected to start season on injured list

The New York Yankees starting rotation has taken another hit.

On Saturday morning, manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Luis Severino suffered a low-grade right lat strain and will likely start the season on the injured list.

Boone said Clarke Schmidt is expected to start the Yankees’ second game of the regular season against the San Francisco Giants on April 1, with Gerrit Cole slated to start Opening Day.

With Carlos Rodón and Frankie Montas also injured, the rest of the rotation projects to include Nestor Cortes and Domingo Germán. A guy to keep an eye on is Jhony Brito, who has yet to make his Major League debut.
