For the second-straight season and the 14th time in program history, the Newark Reds have claimed a sectional title.

The two-seeded Reds (19-4) knocked off the top-seeded Batavia Blue Devils (18-5) with a 60-55 victory in the Section V Class B1 Final on Saturday morning at the Blue Cross Arena.

Newark jumped out to a 15-8 lead after the opening quarter, but Batavia came storming back, outscoring the Reds 19-13 in the second quarter and making it a one-point game at the break. Each team traded leads in the second half, but Newark pulled away late after trailing by two possessions.
