Thousands of people across the Skaneateles area lost their power and heat on Friday due to high winds and dangerously cold weather. The village of Skaneateles maintains its own electric services, causing some residents to be affected.
One of the residents, Michael Olbrych, walked into a dark apartment on Friday night, only to realize that he was not alone in the outage. Despite the power coming back on at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, it went out again the next morning and did not come back on until a few hours later.
Others visiting Skaneateles for the day also experienced power outages, including Brenda Botbyl-Velez, who was visiting the Mirbeau Inn & Spa with her husband and son.
Despite the lights coming back on at 1:30 pm, the Inn chose to stay closed due to the building’s inability to warm up.
