The Auburn City Council has approved a resolution authorizing public hearings to be held next week concerning two grant applications, totaling over $12 million, with the state’s Restore NY Communities Initiative.
The hearings will be held at the next city council meeting on January 12th and will concern a request for $2 million to help rehabilitate the 120 Genesee St. building downtown and a request for $10 million to assist with the redevelopment of the dormant manufacturing site at 151 Orchard St.
The 151 Orchard St. property, which was previously a rail car production site for Bombardier Transportation, has been closed since 2006, and the 120 Genesee St. building was last occupied by Chemung Canal Trust Co. in 2017.
The public will have the opportunity to learn about and provide input on the grant applications at the hearings.
