Authorities say a Weedsport man has pleaded guilty to stealing a rifle from a hunter by pretending to be a government worker.

Prosecutors say Zackary Harvey stole a rifle from a hunter on September 9th, 2022 by pretending to be a DEC police officer.

The DEC later recovered the stolen rifle and an illegally possessed 12-gauge shotgun from Harvey’s home.

He will be sentenced in April. At this point, prosecutors say Harvey faces 1-3 years in prison for pleading guilty to the criminal impersonation and grand larceny charges.
