Representative Hakeem Jeffries has announced his bid to replace Nancy Pelosi as the House Democratic leader.
Jeffries wrote a letter to his colleagues asking for their support after officially announcing his bid on Friday.
The letter was four pages long and detailed what the Democrat plans with an outline of priorities. Jeffries is a 52-year-old Brooklyn Democrat who said he would value input from “every corner of the Caucus.”
One of his suggestions following the violent attack of Pelosi’s husband was to create a task force that would help with security issues for lawmakers. Pelosi shared that she supported Jeffries as soon as he announced his bid. So far nobody has come forward to run against him.
If he wins he would be the first Black lawmaker to lead an entire party in Congress.
