The state Gaming Commission has unanimously approved a casino license for Churchill Downs, a Kentucky-based company that purchased del Lago Resort and Casino in Tyre.
The purchase was part of a larger buyout of another gaming company.

In 2019, Wilmorite sold its del Lago interest to LA-based Peninsula Pacific Entertainment. Last winter it was reported that Peninsula was selling several of its properties – including del Lago – to Churchill Downs.
Other properties included in the $2.5 billion deal included the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Sioux City, Iowa; Colonial Downs Racetrack in New Kent County, Virginia; and six Rosie’s Gaming Emporium facilities in Virginia, according to the Times-Union.
Churchill Downs owns TwinSpires, which is an online betting platform. They also own the Kentucky Derby.
