Yates County purchases software to make sure occupancy tax is being paid

The Yates County Legislature recently voted to continue its four percent occupancy tax on hotels, motels, and other lodging facilities.

Some facilities aren’t aware they’re subject to the tax

The county has purchased software to make sure everyone pays their fair share. Yates County Administrator Nonie Flynn says the software tracks lodging facilities to ensure that everyone who is subject to the tax is paying it.

Flynn says in many cases, businesses who are not paying the tax simply didn’t know they had to. Most of the money collected from the tax goes to tourism promotion.
