Walgreens is charging a ‘recycling fee’ on top of the traditional bottle and can deposit.
Reporting by News10NBC shows that the company is known for doing this in New York, and other states.
However, the reason for it isn’t very clear at all.
News10NBC contacted the state Department of Environmental Conservation, who said there’s nothing in the bottle bill regulation concerning recycling fees. The State Department said they hadn’t received any complaints about the matter.
They cited other examples in states around the northeast where added recycling fees were charged.
As for the company, Walgreens says it’s looking into the matter.
But for the time being, that ‘recycling fee’ can’t be contested or stopped.
