The New York Yankees made several roster moves before Thursday’s series finale against the Cincinnati Reds at Yankee Stadium.
The team placed starting pitcher Luis Severino on the 15-day injured list with a low-grade right lat strain. Reliever Ryan Weber was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take his spot on the 26-man roster.
The Yankees also reinstated reliever Jonathan Loáisiga from the 15-day injured list and optioned reliever JP Sears to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room on the 26-man roster.
Severino left Wednesday’s start after just two innings with what was originally described as right shoulder tightness. The right-hander’s fastball velocity was noticeably down. Severino owns a 3.45 ERA over 86 innings this season.
Loáisiga returns to the bullpen after missing about two months with right shoulder inflammation.
Sears surrendered two runs over 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday night.
