Deceptive ticket fees now illegal in New York

Governor Kathy Hochul has signed legislation banning deceptive ticketing practices in the live event industry.

The legislation, S.9461/A.10500, provides an update to New York State’s ‘Ticketing Law’.

The law bans hidden fees. All fees must be clearly disclosed in the total cost.

It also increases fines for the use of illegal ticket purchasing software.

Sale of tickets originally distributed for free is now illegal.

It also prohibits delivery fees on tickets that are delivered electronically.

“Live entertainment has long been a critical sector in our economy, and as consumers and the industry recover from the pandemic, it is important that we make the ticket-buying experience easier and more transparent,” Governor Hochul said.
