Rochester Red Wings drop series opener to Worcester

The Rochester Red Wings fell to the Worcester Red Sox, 4-2, in the series opener on Tuesday night at Frontier Field.

Veteran pitcher Aníbal Sánchez made a rehab start for Rochester and surrendered a pair of runs on three hits over 2 2/3 innings. Carson Teel and Matt Brill each allowed a run in relief, while Mason Thompson and Patrick Murphy had scoreless outings.

Worcester jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Ronaldo Hernandez’s two-run single.

Hernandez collected his third RBI of the night and made it 3-0 with a run-scoring single in the third.

Tres Barrera put the Red Wings on the board in the fourth with an RBI fielder’s choice.

Jake Noll smacked his sixth home run of the season in the sixth to make it a one-run game but that was as close as it would get as Worcester added another run in the eighth on Connor Wong’s run-scoring double.

Donovan Casey had Rochester’s only multi-hit game.

The second game of the six-game series is set for Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Cade Cavalli is slated to make his 13th start of the season.
