New York Yankees right-hander Clay Holmes was named American League Reliever of the Month, Major League Baseball announced Friday.
Holmes threw 14 scoreless innings in May and allowed eight hits with 15 strikeouts and no walks, going 3-0 with four saves to earn the award.
Holmes has been serving as the Yankees’ closer since Aroldis Chapman went on the injured list with a left Achilles issue.
Before Holmes, the last Yankee to win AL Reliever of the Month was Chapman, who earned the award in August of 2019.
