A new UBI program in Chicago is giving $500 payments each month in an attempt to combat poverty, and applications close soon.
There are only two weeks left for people to apply for the payments which would last for one year.
The program is called the Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot.
5,000 residents will be chosen through a lottery system once all applications are submitted.

Applications opened April 25 and will go until May 13.
There are no rules for how the money must be spent.
You need documents that prove your identity, birthdate, residence, and household income for the application.

Eligibility for the UBI program
You must be a Chicago resident over the age of 18.
You need to show you experienced hardship financially from the pandemic and have a household income below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level.
One person per household may apply.
Everyone will know the status of their application by the end of May.
