Geneva’s next city clerk identified as Nicole Tillotson: Nearly 50 applied for the job

Geneva will soon have a new city clerk.

The position, which was vacated by Nicole Wright, who pursued an opportunity with the Geneva Fire Department, will be filled at a special meeting today. Nicole Tillotson, who is expected to be appointed at that meeting, will serve a vital role in city operations.

The search process yielded nearly 50 applicants with just over 20 being City of Geneva residents.

According to a press release from City Manager Amie Hendrix, “Nicole Tillotson was the clear choice,” in a process that involved nearly 50 applicants and several in-person interviews. She noted that over 20 of the applicants were city residents, too.

“Ms. Tillotson is a seasoned professional who brings with her years of experience in providing quality customer service, supporting various stakeholders, maintaining governmental records, and working to ensure employee and community success. She has worked for Ontario County since 2016, serving in the Departments of Public Health, Social Services and as a Confidential Secretary to the Ontario County Sherriff,” the city continued in a press release.

“We are excited to welcome Nicole to City Hall to not only support the work of the City Council but to be a key member of our leadership team. In the interview process it was clear that Nicole is a strategic thinker who will be a great resource for staff, council, and the community,” Hendrix said in a statement.

Mayor Steve Valentino, who told FingerLakes1.com last month that he was eager for the city to fill the role after Wright’s move to another department, shared his excitement about Tillotson’s appointment. “We are fortunate to have received so many applications from interested candidates. This is a positive signal that the City of Geneva is a great place to live, work & invest. Nicole comes to the City Clerk position with experience, talent and professionalism that will be a valuable compliment to the team. Council looks forward to working with Nicole and also shares their appreciation for all that applied,” he said.
