Yankees cruise past Royals for seventh straight win

The New York Yankees extended their win streak to seven games with a 12-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium.

Nestor Cortes got the start for New York and allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits over five innings while striking out three.

Jonathan Loasiga, Chad Green and Lucas Luetge tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

The Yankees smacked four home runs and scored 12 runs on 11 hits.

Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton hit back-to-back homers in the top half of the first to give the Yankees a quick 3-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Salvador Perez put the Royals on the board with a RBI double to left-center.

Michael Taylor made it a one-run game in the second with a RBI single to left.

New York scored four runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to break the game open.

DJ LeMahieu started the four-run seventh with a RBI single to left. Aaron Judge followed that with a three-run shot to right-center.

In the eighth, Gleyber Torres belted a two-run homer to left and Kyle Higashioka ripped one down the left-field line for a three-run double.

LeMahieu, Stanton and Kiner-Falefa each had two hits.

Gerrit Cole gets the ball on Saturday night as the Yankees look to secure another series win and their eighth consecutive victory. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
