Here’s what do do if you’ve been impacted.

IRS: I missed the tax deadline, what happens now?

Why haven’t I gotten my refund yet?

One factor that could be contributing to the delay is IRS backlog. They got jammed up with more responsibilities like sending out stimulus payments, and delivering child tax credits. Read more about it here.

There are some steps you can take to avoid this again:

  1. Don’t delay filing this year
    • Many people think you can’t file until the previous years return has been processed, but the IRS says not to wait.
  2. Report your AGI
    • If you are still waiting on 2020’s tax return you should report your AGI as $0.
  3. Contact the IRS for help
    • IRS is directing people to their Let Us Help You page on their website and advises getting in-person help.
