A music man from Bath has been selected to hit a High C as he plunges in chilly Lake Salubria in Bath for the annual Tyrtle Beach fundraiser, which benefits area youth programs in central Steuben County.
Neil Bryson, Bath Central School Music Director, was named Friday as the Tyrtle Beach Jumper during the 30 th annual event by radio personality Dave Taylor Smith during WVIN-FM’s morning broadcast. The jump is scheduled for 5:30-7 pm, Apr. 29.
A popular springtime tradition in Steuben, the fundraiser has raised more than $760,000 for youth programs in central Steuben in 29 years, including county Legislator Kelly Fitzpatrick, RBath who raised more than $22,000 in 2021 by staging a triathlete entry into the glacial lake.
A graduate of Haverling High School and the father of two sons, Bryson will join a long line of other Tyrtle Beach notables including the original jumper Taylor Smith, state and local leaders such as county Manager Jack Wheeler, law enforcement officials including county Sheriff Jim Allard and school leaders such as BCS Superintendent Joe Rumsey (then with Prattsburgh CS) and Campbell-Savona High School Principal Kelley Meade.
Bryson was joined during Friday’s announcement by representatives of T&R Towing, which raised $3,000 for the youth benefit at a golf tournament in the fall of 2021.
