Los Angeles has paved the way for various UBI programs, and the latest one will pay chosen applicants $1,000 per month for three years.
The program is called Breathe, and applications have opened this week.
The name Breathe comes from the idea of helping residents “breathe” easier with the funds.
1,000 residents will be chosen at random to receive the monthly $1,000 for three straight years.

What are the eligibility requirements for the UBI program?
Applicants must be 18 years old.
If you’re single, your income must be at or below the 100% area median income for Los Angeles.
If there are two or more people in your household, your AMI cannot exceed 120%.
You must show you’ve been financially impacted by the pandemic and cannot be receiving money from any other program.
