Amerks edged by Marlies in shootout, 3-2

The Rochester Americans fell to the Toronto Marlies in a shootout, 3-2, on Friday night at the Blue Cross Arena.

Rochester led 2-1 after two periods, but allowed a game-tying goal in the third and never scored again. Toronto won the shootout, 1-0.

Sean Malone provided all of the offense for the Amerks as he netted both goals.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 27-of-29 shots in the loss.


Alex Steeves and Bobby McMann tallied for Toronto and Joey Anderson scored the only goal in the shootout.

Michael Hutchinson turned aside 26-of-28 shots to earn the victory.

Rochester finished 1-for-4 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The Amerks will head to Syracuse to face the Crunch on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
