Geneva man charged with felony assault, possession of weapon after Newark bar shooting

Authorities in Wayne County say a Geneva man has been arrested after a shooting at Tommy Boys Bar and Grille in Newark.

The shooting happened during the early-morning hours on Saturday. The victim was shot in the leg and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The victim was not identified, but deputies said in an update on Friday that they were treated at a local hospital.

Joshua Whitfield, 24, of Geneva was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Whitfield was processed at the sheriff’s office then taken to the Wayne County Jail to await arraignment.

Detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by members of the Newark Police Department and Geneva Police Department.
