Americans everywhere have started filing their taxes for 2022 with the IRS, but what if they opt to receive their payments using cash apps like Venmo?
Cash apps will now report payments worth over $600 to the IRS.
This includes Venmo, CashApp, and Paypal.
The $600 payments made for goods and services from a third party will be reported.
This started Jan. 1 and is geared toward people using the apps to avoid paying taxes.

This law was passed under the American Rescue Plan.
Etsy, Airbnb, and other similar services will see changes to how they report their taxes.

Form 1099-K and the IRS
Form 1099-K is a requirement for any business transactions adding up to $600 or more during the year.
Before this year, the limit was $20,000 and/or 200 business transactions.
This means more people will see a 1099-K in 2022.
Venmp, Paypal, and CashApp are all updating their policies and procedures to match with IRS requirements.
The policies do not count toward personal CashApp accounts, just business accounts.
