Geneva pair charged with felony robbery after attack at Hopewell motel: Victim suffers head, back, chest, and rib injuries

The Ontario County Sheriff’s office reports the arrest of two Geneva residents following an assault and robbery at the Fingerlakes Inn in Hopewell.

According to a news release, Gavyn Vangorder, 25, and Shane Beckett, 30, were charged with second-degree robbery.


The felony charges stem from an investigation into an incident at the motel where they two reportedly entered the victim’s unit and caused physical injury to them. The victim suffered injuries to her head, back, ribcage, elbow, chest, and foot.

The defendant’s then stole the victim’s phone, wallet, money, and prescription medication and fled the scene. According to the news

The two were stopped in a vehicle in the city of Geneva by police and apprehended later by deputies with the sheriff’s office.

Both were held pending arraignment. The charges will be answered in Hopewell Town Court.
