Several Thruway service areas in Western New York and Central New York have been closed since last year. In a matter of months- they will reopen. The $300 million renovation project resulted in several rest stops- including those in the Finger Lakes to be leveled, and rebuilt from the ground up.
The service areas in Tyre, Seneca County and Clifton Springs, Ontario County were both tore down to their foundations. Brand new facilities will follow in the coming months.
When will these Thruway rest stops reopen?
Clifton Springs is slated to open in September 2022. The Tyre location, which closed at the same time, is not expected to reopen until 2023.
What restaurants will be at the new Thruway service ares?
Shake Shack, Chick-fil-A, Popeyes, Dunkin’, Panda Express, Burger King, and Panera Bread are all expected.
Restaurants will be confirmed in the coming months, according to officials.
The project isn’t going to cost taxpayers anything, as the deal itself is part of a public-private partnership where New York State awarded a contract to Empire State Thruway Partners (formerly Applegreen) after a bidding process.
