As the Biden administration works to get monthly checks back for families with children, two February stimulus payments are a possibility.
The IRS let lawmakers know that in order to get families checks in January, they needed approval by Dec. 28, 2021.
The final 2021 payment went out Dec. 15.
The deadline for the Build Back Better bill to pass for the IRS has passed, but there’s a chance it could pass in 2022.
If that’s the case, the U.S. Treasury is in talks with the white house about sending double payments in Feb. 2022 to make up for no payments in Jan.

Child tax credit monthly payments
Starting in July 2021, families were sent up to $300 per month for 6 months.
This was the first half of the child tax credit they were expected to receive when filing their 2021 taxes
The second half, worth up to $1,800, can be claimed when taxes are filed.
The dollar amount claimed per child rose from $2,000 to $3,600 for kids 5 and under and $3,000 for kids ages 6-17.
If the Build Back Better bill passes, the expansion on child tax credits will be extended for one more year.

Plus up payments are another way Americans can see $1,400 stimulus checks
The deadline for plus up payments was up on Friday Dec. 31, 2021.
Those that applied for them needed to file their taxes by the end of 2021 for 2020.
The plus up payments aim to help give the correct amount in stimulus aid to people who may have had their 2019 taxes used to determine their payment.

Some people had outdated information on their old returns, so they received less than or none of what they were entitled to.
There are options if you missed the deadline for the plus up payment.
When you file your 2021 tax returns, you can claim the recovery rebate credit.
This will only apply to the third missed stimulus payment.
On your 2020 tax return, you needed to claim the first two stimulus checks.

If you became a new parent in 2021, you can claim an additional $1,400 for the child in 2022.
On top of that, you may meet the income requirements for the full child tax credit worth $3,600.
This means new parents could claim up to $5,000 in 2022 for having a child or adopting in 2021.
