There is just one payment left in 2021 for Social Security recipients before they begin getting bigger checks in 2022.
Starting in Jan., checks will be larger thanks to the 5.9% COLA increase.
The average monthly check for 2021 is $1,565, and in 2022 it will jump $92 dollars to $1,657.
The payment you receive in Dec. will remain the same it has been throughout 2021.

What’s going on with your December Social Security payment
The schedule for the month of Dec. is the same as it has been.
If your birthday lands between the 1st and 10th of the month, your payment will be on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
Those with a birthday that falls between the 11th and 20th day of the month will be getting their payment on the second Wednesday, Dec. 15.
Finally, anyone that has a birthday between the 21st and 31st can expect their payment on Dec. 22.

Christmas will not impact your payment because it falls on a weekend.
What happens when a federal holiday falls on a weekend, is that it’s recognized the next weekday.
This year, Monday Dec. 27 is a federal holiday since Christmas falls the Saturday before that.
When a payment date falls on a federal holiday, the payment is made the weekday immediately before the holiday.

Will SSI payments be impacted by the holiday?
Because SSI is paid on the 1st every month, it will be impacted for 2022.
Jan. 1, New Years Day, is a federally recognized holiday.
The SSA is recognizing New Years Day on New Years Eve, so this pushes the payment date back to the closest weekday. That is Dec. 30, 2021.
