Five states in the country are going to help out struggling residents with UBI or stimulus checks worth up to $2,000 in 2022.
Universal Basic Income, or UBI, is a recurring payment that can happen monthly, weekly, or annually.
Stimulus payments have been a one-time payment. Though there have been multiple stimulus checks of all different types, they’re paid once and not recurring.

Americans continue to call on the government and ask for another stimulus check, but the chances of that are slim.
While Americans wait to see what happens with the government, local governments are taking matters into their own hands and using stimulus money to help their residents.
Here are 5 places giving out up to $2,000 in aid to families that need it
California is in the middle of handing out 9 million Golden State Stimulus II payments.

Over 6 million checks have already gone out and will continue every two weeks until they’re all sent.
Checks are worth $600-$1,100 and go to those making under $75,000 per year.
Chicago is starting a UBI pilot program and giving low income households $500 per month.
5,000 families that make under $35,000 were chosen at random to receive the money.

Starting in Sept., 100 low income fathers in Columbia entered into a UBI program.
The 100 fathers received a pre-loaded debit card with $500 and will continue to get that amount for one year.
The goal is to better understand issues embedded in poverty, inequity, and financial instability.
Maine gave out over 500,000 stimulus checks worth $285.

Residents that make under $75,000 per year and filed their Maine income taxes by Oct. 31 qualified for the check.
Finally, New Orleans is giving teens and young adults debit cards worth $350 to help teach financial literacy in the city.
125 residents between the ages of 16 and 24 who are not in school or employed were chosen.
The payments will start in December.
