Nearly 3 million Americans demand $2,000 stimulus check as COVID-19 starts to rise again

A new petition has been signed by almost 3 million Americans demanding a $2,000 stimulus check while COVID cases continue to rise across the nation.

The petition calls on Congress to approve the checks monthly for Americans until the pandemic ends. If it surpasses 3 million it will be one of the most signed petitions.

The chances of Congress approving another stimulus check, let alone monthly checks, is slim. Support for the petition continues to grow despite this.

The petition is asking for $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children. It asks that these checks continue for the duration of the pandemic.

6,000 signatures are new within the past week alone.

The CDC released data via their COVID tracker and showed a 16.1% increase in new cases last week compared to the week before.

Delta is still surging across the nation and continues to be the number one culprit for new cases.

Already Congress has approved numerous checks since the pandemic began.

In March of 2020 $1,200 checks were sent to millions of Americans, followed by $600 checks later that year in December. After the American Rescue Plan passed, another $1,400 was sent to Americans.

Democrats are now pushing for an extension of child tax credits for 2022.

If extended, the maximum $3,600 for children under six and $3,000 for children ages 6-17 will stay in place for another year.
