Livingston County Nursing Home has 40-50 unvaccinated workers currently on unpaid leave

The staffing issues expected to come with the vaccine mandate that went into effect Monday appear to be impacting nursing homes and assisted living facilities the most.

Statistics show that 92% of nursing home staff and 89% of adult care facility staff are vaccinated, but that 8-11% now on unpaid leave has a significant impact on the industry.

One example is the Livingston County Nursing Home; there are between 40 and 50 people currently on unpaid leave.

The employees on leave include LPNs, CNAs, and RNs, but the CNAs make up the majority. They also provide most of the direct care.

Right now the state is allowing the hiring of uncertified nursing assistants who can learn on the job, which is something that would not normally happen.

The Livingston County Nursing Home is also no longer accepting new residents.
