Chemung County man sentenced to 7 years in prison for shaking infant son causing permanent brain damage

A man has been sentenced to seven years in state prison for causing serious brain damage to his infant son.

Joseph Stowe of Chemung County was charged with assault last month after he shook his 27-day-old baby in Dec. 2018 causing serious physical injury.

The injuries have caused long term negative effects on the child’s development and function.

The child is now three years old and cannot hold his head up, speak, is blind, and experiences over 50 seizures in one day.

Stowe, 23, will serve his sentence followed by three years of post-supervision upon release.
