A public information meeting became tense in the town of Skaneateles when discussing the law legalizing recreational marijuana use.
Thirty residents were in attendance and listened as attorney Michael Balestra of Hancock Estabrook went over the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act.
Balestra explained that kinks were still being worked out regarding many of the legal aspects of the marijuana industry for the state of New York.
He did explain how the town and village could choose to opt out of the option to allow dispensaries, but that they would not see the revenue they would provide and that no matter what they decide, marijuana will be legal in the state regardless.
Residents had a lot of questions that cannot be answered this early on, but some were in favor while others weren’t.
One resident explained that they should wait to opt in in the future when they have more answers, because they can always decide to opt in later on.
