Herb Alexander has been welcomed by Cayuga Health as their new chief diversity officer.
The move is an attempt to increase diversity among the health system’s workforce.
Before Cayuga Health, Alexander worked as the chief diversity officer and associate dean of students for Roberts Wesleyan College. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the college.
Part of hiring Alexander was decided on by the CEO of the health system, who formed a systemwide Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee last year. He decided it was an area that needed more focus.
Alexander says he is impressed with the commitment to the changes he’s seen in his one week on the job.
He stated it’s clear this isn’t an attempt to “look good” but a real commitment to change.
