Retired Lt. Col. Steven W. Holden, 48, of Camillus, has filed the paperwork to seek the Democratic nomination for Congress and replace Rep. John Katko next year.
Holden served for 20 years and completed four deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He retired in 2018 and was award three Bronze Star Medals in his time.
Holden worked with an Army unit as a finance officer that helped finance the capture of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
He is running because he believes Katko does not have Central New Yorkers best interests in mind when it comes to healthcare, taxes, guns or voting rights.
Holden is a native of Oklahoma and attended Syracuse University in 2006 earning dual master’s degrees in business and public administration. He met his wife there, a Liverpool native named Julie, and moved to Camillus in 2018 after retiring from the Army.
He currently teaches finance, contract and leadership courses to federal employees and co-owns a business, Digital Horizon Services, that helps veterans win government contracts.
