First responders were called to a fire on Old West Lake Rd. over the weekend.
On Saturday they were called for the report of a woods fire. The owner of the property, identified as John Smith, 74, of Canadice, started a fire in a metal barrel, which spread to neighboring wooded area.
Richmond Fire and Ambulance, East Bloomfield Fire Department, Bristol Fire Department, Naples Fire Department, and Hemlock Fire Department all responded to the scene.
Two wooden buildings were damaged by the blaze. Smith also suffered from smoke inhalation and was sent to Strong Memorial Hospital.
New York State Forest Rangers also responded and issued Smith an appearance ticket for burning while a burn ban was in effect.
They determined that he caused the fire. The charge will be answered at a later date in local court.
