Towns in Wayne and Ontario counties are receiving a combined $1.27 million for road safety projects through a statewide funding round announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The awards are part of $43.2 million being distributed to local governments to reduce lane-departure crashes and improve roadway safety.
In Wayne County, the towns of Galen, Arcadia and Macedon will receive $950,000 to add and widen shoulders on Old Route 31, Fairville Maple Ridge Road and Wayneport Road.

State officials said the funding will support improvements such as guide rails, signs, pavement markings, shoulder work and other safety measures. The state Department of Transportation said 44% of crash fatalities in New York occur when a vehicle leaves its lane.
The funding comes through the Federal Highway Administration's Highway Safety Improvement Program and is part of the state's Safe System approach toward zero highway deaths.
