A Wayne County man was arrested following a property dispute near the Erie Canal.
Floyd Chadwick, 58, of Galen was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, as a felony; as well as second-degree criminal contempt. He was also charged with trespass.
Chadwick is accused of using an excavator to dig up and destroy portions of the Empire State Trail, which the state Department of Transportation is constructing on property owned by Wayne County.

Law enforcement had previously told Chadwick that he was not allowed to go on the trail or interfere with contractors. A court order was issued.
The dispute itself dates back to 2019 when Chadwick claimed he owned part of the property.
Wayne County alleges that Chadwick obstructed the canal path with boulders and downed trees. He was arraigned at the Wayne County Jail.
