Sheriff Brian Schenck reports the arrest of a Hannibal duo following an investigation into a burglary during the early-morning hours on Saturday.
Around 2:15 a.m. deputies were called to a burglary complaint with a report of shots fired on Onionville Road in the town of Sterling. Residents reported that a male and female had confronted them inside and outside the residence, demanding money, and that the male was armed with a shotgun.
The shotgun was discharged one time without striking anyone or causing injury. The couple then fled the scene, prior to police arrival, according to Sheriff Schenck.
He says the suspects were identified as Daniel Swank, 41, and Danielle Swank, 39, who had arrest warrants issued on a number of charges related to the incident.
Daniel was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree menacing, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Danielle was charged with second-degree burglary. They refused to come to the door when deputies arrived to take them into custody. A perimeter was established and other resources were called to defuse the situation.
It took five hours of negotiations before the duo were taken into custody. Assisting the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation was the Cayuga County E-911 Center, Oswego County E-911 Center, New York State Police, Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, Hannibal Fire Department, and Mentor Ambulance.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to call (315) 253-6562.
