A Sterling man was charged after deputies said he violated a court order by spray-painting threatening messages on a garage.
The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested the 40-year-old man Aug. 9 on misdemeanor counts of criminal tampering and second-degree criminal contempt.
Deputies identified the man as Joshua C. Crowningsheild. The investigation began after deputies met with the victim at Fair Haven State Park at about 3:13 p.m. to discuss an alleged order of protection violation in the town of Sterling.
Investigators determined Crowningsheild had spray-painted the messages on the garage at the residence covered by the court order, the sheriff's office said.
Crowningsheild was processed at the Cayuga County Public Safety Building, taken to the Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment court and released.
