Volunteers are being asked to help remove illegally dumped tires near McIntyre Bluffs as the Sterling Nature Center organizes a two-day community cleanup effort later this week.
The cleanup is scheduled for May 29 and 30, with volunteers meeting at 9 a.m. in the parking lot off McIntyre Road, according to organizers.
The Sterling Nature Center said old tires were recently discovered in the area near the bluffs, prompting the need for a hands-on cleanup effort to protect the natural environment and improve the area.
Organizers said volunteers are welcome to help even if they can only participate for a few hours.
The cleanup effort comes as parks and nature areas across the region continue dealing with illegal dumping and litter issues, particularly in remote outdoor locations.
The Sterling Nature Center is encouraging residents looking to support conservation and outdoor stewardship efforts to participate in the project.
