One local hospital in the UR Medicine family has avoided layoffs or furloughs amid the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Employees at Thompson Health in Canandaigua will not be furloughed, even though UR Medicine faces a $315 million budget gap.
“Being a lean organization, we were able to pivot quickly as COVID began affecting our region,” said Thompson Health President/CEO Michael F. Stapleton Jr. to The Canandaigua Messenger.
While there have been some temporary assignment changes, those are not expected to be long-term at the moment.
Last week, URMC said that upwards of 3,474 employees had been furloughed. In an effort to avoid layoffs or furloughs at Thompson Health – Stapleton said they have frozen business travel, overtime, and holding the line on salary increases.
