Two sent to Strong Hospital after head-on crash in Wayne County

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says it investigated a personal injury crash on Vienna Road in Palmyra on Wednesday.

It happened around 4 p.m. when deputies were dispatched to Vienna Road south of Trolley Road for the report of a head-on crash with entrapment.

Deputies say the pickup truck, which was operated by Michael Geldorf, 42, of Palmyra was traveling north when he crossed the centerline into the path of a southbound pickup operated by Douglas Scharett, 45, of Clifton Springs.

Geldorf suffered minor injuries while Scharett was entrapped and suffered leg injuries. Both were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Finger Lakes Ambulance for treatment.

Traffic tickets were issued to Geldorf for failure to keep right.

Deputies say they were assisted at the scene by New York State Police and the Palmyra Fire Department in addition to Finger Lakes Ambulance.
