Former Weedsport mayor named in Child Victims Act lawsuit

A new lawsuit has been filed under the Child Victims Act in Cayuga County, and it accuses Boy Scouts of America, as well as the Weedsport Central School District of failing the student more than 40 years ago.

The Auburn Citizen reports that the lawsuit was filed on January 22nd by Scott Gregory Coats in state Supreme Court in Cayuga County.

It alleges that the school district, as well as the board of education at the time were negligent in overseeing and employing Victor Sine. Boy Scouts of America was also named in the suit.

Sine is accused of sexually abusing Coats while he was 13-14 years old, according to the suit. Sine died in 2018, and served as Weedsport village mayor.
