On Saturday, Sheriff Brian Schenck provided new details regarding the structure fire in the town of Victory, which prompted a massive response during the overnight hours.

He says that more than a dozen departments and EMS providers worked together to extinguish the fire and provide medical services.
“In addition to those providers, also assisting with the investigation are the Cayuga County 911 Center, Cayuga County Fire Investigation Team, New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, and the Cayuga County Coroner’s Office,” Schenck said in the release.

One Person Unaccounted For As Investigation Continues
– Saturday, 1 p.m.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is continuing an investigation into a fire, which destroyed a home in the Town of Victor Friday night.
It prompted around a dozen firefighting agencies to be called to the rural portion of Cayuga County.
An update by law enforcement on Saturday revealed that one person remains unaccounted after the blaze.
Det. Lt. Fred Cornelius told the Auburn Citizen that a married couple lived at the home.
The woman who lived at the home was able to escape. She was transported to a Syracuse hospital with minor injuries. However, the man was unaccounted for as of Saturday afternoon.
The couple’s identities weren’t released by authorities as of Saturday at 2 p.m.
“There does not appear at this time to be any reason to believe there’s any criminality to this, but obviously we have to conduct the investigation in such a way that if there was, we would be doing things the way it’s supposed to be done,” Cornelius told The Citizen. “We’re making the assumption that we’re engaging in a recovery effort.”
The home was a total loss.
