Governor considers special election to fill State Senate seat likely to be vacated by Antonacci

Governor Andrew Cuomo gave his first hint Wednesday as to how he plans to fill the State Senate seat vacated by Bob Antonacci, if absentee ballots don’t change his standing in the race for State Supreme Court Justice.

With three seats to be filled, Antonacci is second in the results calculated on Election Night. Incumbent justice Bernadette Romano Clark is the heavy front-runner and Joseph Lamendola is third. Democrats Julie Cerio and Judy Rory McMahon are fourth and fifth.

The hundreds of absentee ballots still to be counted will determine the final results.

If Antonacci wins, he’ll have to resign the State Senate seat he won last November.

Governor Cuomo has the power to call for a special election to fill the vacancy.
