Investigation remains active after second fatality reported in Brutus crash from Aug. 23rd

Investigators say they are still working to understand what led to a crash in the Town of Brutus on Route 31 last week.

The crash happened on Friday, August 23rd. State Police say 83-year-old John Szozda, of Throop died shortly after the crash. Meanwhile, 34-year-old Erin Price, of Syracuse died on Monday at Upstate University Hospital.

The Citizen reports that Mary Szozda, 80, who was John Szozda’s passenger, was listed in fair condition.

At this point, investigators say the SUV being operated by Price crossed into the westbound lane, striking the Ford Taurus being operated by the Throop couple.

The investigation remains active.
